Canadian Firearms Safety Course – CFSC
This course is intended for all people interested in acquiring a PAL (Possession and Acquisition License) for non-restricted firearms (this includes shotguns and rifles).Target shooters, gun collectors or people interested to get involved in hunting activities will need this course and pass the exams and tests. There is a written exam consisting out of 50 questions and a practical test. You will need to obtain 80% or better in order to pass both test and to be able to apply for this type of license.
Topics covered in the CFSC include:
- the evolution of firearms, major parts, types and actions;
- basic firearms safety practices;
- ammunition;
- operating firearm actions;
- safe handling and carry procedures;
- firing techniques and procedures;
- care of non-restricted firearms;
- responsibilities of the firearms owner/user; and,
- safe storage, display, transportation and handling of non-restricted firearms.
By completing this course, you will learn how to do the following:
- handle firearms and ammunition safely;
- use firearms and ammunition safely;
- comply with firearms laws & regulations;
- store, display & transport non-restricted firearms and ammunition safely & legally.

Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course – CRFSC
The legislation requires individuals who wish to get non-restricted firearms to take the CFSC and/or pass the tests. Individuals wishing to acquire restricted firearms must take both CFSC and CRFSC and/or pass both tests. People interested on target shooting, applying for a job in security services or border agencies will be required to acquire to take the RPAL (Restricted Possession and Acquisition License).You will need to pass both tests and exams with 80% or greater in order to be able to apply for RPAL.
